What Is The Cause And Treatment For Depression?

my son is 17 years old. He could't go to school for 2 months. It's hard for him to learning new stuff by himself. He couldn't do English essay. But he can do Calculus with home teacher's help. He had fatigue which lasted 2 weeks and than recovered. He sometimes sleeps 10~12 hours. He eat more and gained 5 pound (5%). He is interested in computer games and online chat with his friends who are college students. He sit in the front of computer all the day (over 12 hours). When we buy a laptop for him, he was very happy.
We did blood test and he Vitamin D is 21. All other things are normal.
Is he depressed? If so, what type? It's mild ,moderate or severer?

Hello
For diagnosis of depression, he should have sad mood, loss of energy and lack of pleasure . He is just sitting idle, probably not depressed. He needs to be given a target to achieve in short term with his consent.
