General & Family Physician 's  Response
It seems you are suffering from polyarthritis of small joints of hands and wrists. Do let us know if you have early morning stifness or not.
You need to be investigated for polarthritis. Do get your complete blood count, fasting ESR, CRP,Thyroid profile, Rheumatoid factor, Serum Calcium and Phosphorous and alkaline phosphatase.
Clinically reviewing you condition, to me it seems Rheumatoid arthritis in flare. Do get these tests done and do consult a good Rheumatologist or Orthopedician.
To your knowledge Chronic rheumatoid arthritis, diagnosed early and treated with DMARDs can prevent severe joint deformities which are associated with this disease.

General & Family Physician Dr. Kimberly Martin's  Response
Hello Anonymous joint problems are a common issue. I would think that your general physician could start the workup on the different causes of joint pain and swelling. Some causes of joint swelling include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and other various forms of arthritis. Other medical problems can also cause joint swelling and your general physician can start workup for you.

Be well, Dr. Kimberly
