What Is The Best Medicine For Itching From Hives?

What is the name of the drug used to stop itching from an allergic reaction with hives? It must be some type of steroid because the directions indicate a large dose then progressively smaller dosses until all is gone in about a week. What is the name of that?

Hi,

I think you are talking about Glucocorticoid steroids (Prednisolone or Metylprednisolone). For allergic reaction hives if it is mild in nature you can try with antihistamines (For example, Cetrizine, Hydroxyzine, etc) which has lesser side effects compared to steroids. If its not responding to antihistamines then go for steroids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hazan
