What Is The Torvate 300 Dosage For Sleep?

I have been diagnosed as bi-polar by my doctors and have been treated with a various drugs like deslver 250mg,, venz 50 for last 6 years when I was either in depression or in maniac state of health. This effected my lever. I have stopped taking the drugs since last 1 year. I take only aloevera liquid with water. I am feeling better except that I have disturbed sleep. I take petril 0.5 mg before sleep. However I get awake in the early hours. Since I have disturbed sleep, I have to resort to application of balm on my head. Now I have been advised by my doctor specialist as Psychiatrist to start taking Torvate 300 manf.by Torrent. Each tab. contains sodium valporate 300mg.Kindly guide me the need to use this tablet for giving proper sleep to me without causing any disorder to my vital orgins, e.g. liver effects.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

You taking Deslver 250, Venz 50 since last 6 years. You are suffering from Bipolar disorder and the drugs caused effects on liver. Sodium valproate is known to cause liver damage in some susceptible individuals. Due to side effects you have stopped to take medicines. Now you have been advised to take Torvate 300 which also consists of sodium valproate. In such situation I would advise you to get your baseline liver functions done before starting the doses and then get it done every month for next six months. Slight variations of levels of liver parameters can occur but significant changes in levels should not occur at this dose.

For sleep the drug can be taken in evening time but this will not help much in resulting in sleep. For your bipolar symptoms medicines like Lithium can be taken which is relatively safe for liver. You can discuss with your psychiatrist for this drug and prescription. For sleep short term benzodiazepines can be used.

Thanks, hope this helps you. Discuss with your psychiatrist before making any change in medicines.

Hello

Torvate contains active ingredient valproate. This can affect your liver.
If you already have ill-effects on liver with drugs you have taken earlier, i would not suggest you to take torvate.

Secondly, this drug is a mood stabiliser and not given to induce sleep.
For sleep, either the increase in dose of petril ir changing to ativan (liver safe) is better option.

Avoid daytime naps.
Donot take fatty heavy meals in dinner.
Take a glass of warm milk at night.

This will help you to improve sleep.

Thanks.
