Hello
Thanks for your query. Those people with temporal lobe epilepsy are prone to experience abnormal perceptions like taste or smell commonly referred to as olfactory or gustatory hallucinations. These symptoms mimic similar hallucinations in psychotic illnesses and hence need to be ruled out. Hope you found the information useful.

Hi.. Seizures occur due to abnormal electric discharges that occur in the brain.. These triggers can arise from the whole brain causing generalised seizures or from part of the brain which results in partial seizures.. When such triggers arise from the temporal lobe they can produce symptoms that are known as temporal lobe seizures or epilepsy.. Occasionally these abnormal discharges can produce hallucinations.. Hallucinations such as seeing a ghost, UFOs and weird things..

Hi Sarah,
Temporal epilepsy is different than epilepsy most of people know, which does not present typically(....like flexion-extension of hand ,tongue bite etc)

This presents with behavioural disturbances like change of personaliity, irritability, aggressive and abusive behaviour, disturbed sleep, abnormal sensation in any of 5 sensory system without any stimulation called "Hallucination".This hallucinations present in clear consciousness and often disturbing to patient as he have insight which is contrary to hallucination in Psychosis.
This usually not pick up on Routine scans and often missed by Doctors.
