What Is Causing Excessive Saliva In My Mouth?

For several months, I have had excessive saliva in my mouth that sometimes makes it difficult for me to speak. I have to slow my speech & enunciate carefully. When I brush my teeth & the roof of my mouth, the saliva is thick & stringy. I don't know what is causing it or whether I need to see a doctor (ENT) or not.
