Hello concerned wife and thanks for writing to HCM
I read you query and understand that the concern is regarding
losartan and
pantoprazole tablet your husband is taking
few more details would have helped more:
his age and occupation?
his current bp values before and after medication?
any drug or medical history?smoking habits?
Coming to the query,
Yes,losartan tend to cause a few side effects like the ones you described ,but is often rare and minimal
Pantoprazole is recommended alongside to prevent
heartburn that often accompanies losartan
if your husband were my patient,
i would recommend switching to another drug of the same class called
olmesartan which has fewer side effects and is effective in most of my patients
I would recommend adding a
diuretic drug like hydrocholrothiazide thiazide also,if the bp remains higher even after taking olmesartan
Please understand drug efficacy do vary patient to patient.
If he is resistant/non tolerant to olmesartan, then i would suggest him taking
nifedipine which is also a commonly used antihypertensive drug
and is very effective
And importantly, aside from the drug intake ,my most important advise to him would be lifestyle modifications like
-maintain ideal weight, stop smoking,do regular exercise and have a balanced low sodium diet
also i would suggest him to continue taking pantoprazole along with the tablet and also take
gelusil syrup 10ml twice daily for heartburn
Hope it clarifies and helps
Followup if needed
Good day.
