hello ayesha, antibiotics usually destroy the intestinal flora i.e. the beneficial bacteria (lactobacillus) present in our intestine which help in digestion of food. So, lactobacillus preperation is necessary to give along with antibiotics.since your paeditrician has adviced antibiotic refzil-o it is necessary to give vizylac which contains lactobacillus spores along with vitamin B complex.

if your child is not comfortable with cold water bath you can sponge him on his forehead, hands and feet. it will do the purpose.

thanks and healthy wishes for your baby.

Pediatrician, Cardiology Dr. Pradeep Kumar Jain's  Response
Hello
Thanks for the query
1) Vizylac syrup is a kind of probiotic containing good flora (lactobacillus) essential for gut. Mostly used in diarrhea as there is deficiency of good gut bacteria in this condition, also used with antibiotics as they kill normal gut bacteria also.
2) You said your baby is suffering from fever only and no other symptoms.
Most of the fever in this age group particularly if not associated with other symptoms are viral. Your doctor has prescribed Ascoril( cough syrup) and Refzil-o ( antibiotic). He must have found something in clinical examination so that he has prescribed all these otherwise there is no need.
3)Avoid cold water for sponging particularly when temp. is less than 103.5 F. Tepid sponging( sponging with lukewarm water) of whole body, so that there should be formation of a thin film, that will evaporate and causes release of energy from body. In contrary cold sponging causes vasoconstriction and so will not be helpful. Cold sponging is recommended for very high temp. which needs immediate reduction.
I hope this answers your query well
Wish you and your family good health
With regards
