What Is Premarin Vaginal Cream Prescribed For?

I had a prolapse surgery two years ago and a complete hysterectomy - my Dr. told me I would be using Premarin Vaginal cream for the rest of my life (I am 69) - what is the reasoning for this - I am not sexually active and am worried about the side effects from using it especially when it says to use it for the shortest time possible...what would happen if I stop?

Hi! thanks for writing to us!

Atrophic vaginitis and related infections, negative psychological changes are very common and rightly anticipated when a female undergoes total hysterectomy with removal of both ovaries; therefore, prevention of this post-menopausal syndrome is necessary...!

That's why doctors prescribe estrogen based creams to restore normal vaginal flora and aver-all quality of life; it is safe just needs periodical PAP test/follow up!

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
