What is Hypermetropia?

Any newer measures that I could use for hypermetropia, like surgery or LASIK. Can you tell me more?

Hypermetropia is also referred to as ?long-sight?. This implies that a child who is ?long-sighted? can see distant objects more clearly but are unable to see objects properly that are near him. Hypermetropia gradually ceases to exist in a large number of children when they reach adulthood. Minor amounts of hypermetropia are sometimes left uncorrected; however, larger amounts may be corrected with convex lenses in eyeglasses or contact lenses. Convex lenses have a positive dioptric value, which causes the light to focus closer than its normal range. Hypermetropia can often be caused by other eye conditions like hazy cornea (corneal dystrophy) or lens (cataract) not all the light can enter the eye and the vision will be blurred. Treatment Involved for Long Sightedness involves the prescription of spectacles. Contact lenses are popular. Of the hard lenses, the gas permeable variety is superior. Soft lenses are larger and initially more comfortable to wear. INTRA-OCULAR LENS IMPLANTS Intra-ocular lens implants are plastic lenses placed in the eye and are a special form of treatment to avoid refractive error, usually given during a cataract operation. RADIAL KERATOTOMY This procedure, developed for the correction of myopia, is controversial. It has proved successful in treatment of higher degrees of myopia but is not without risk. PHOTO REFRACTIVE SURGERY where excimer laser has been successfully used to correct myopia, astigmatism and hypemetropia.
