What Duration Should Be Given To Check The Blood Sugar Levels?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...My fasting BS this morning was 122. I did not eat yesterday until 7pm. Its 10:45 and I had two gram crackers with some peanut butter on them and have only had water today. How long should I wait to test my BS again and what should it be?

Hello,
I presume that you are not someone on treatment.
Well in that case you seem to have pre-diabetes. The correct way to test your fasting blood sugar would be 10 to 12 hours after a normal evening meal. To know the blood sugar after food it is to be tested 2 hours after a normal meal. Normal is less than 140 mg/dl. There is a test called (Oral) Glucose Tolerance Test which will diagnose whether you have diabetes or you can do a test called HbA1c (A1c) to know whether you have diabetes or pre-diabetes. Taking proper care in the pre-diabetes period prevents diabetes in the majority of people.

I shall be happy to answer if you have any other query.
