What Does White Spots And Swelling In Tonsils Post Sinus Infection Suggest?

My throat was sore about 2 weeks ago. Then it cleared up, and my sinuses were acting up. I went to the doctor and he gave me an antibiotic for a sinus infection. About 4 days later, I noticed white spots on my right tonsil and was extremely nauseated, so I went back and got a culture tested for strep, which was negative. He said my throat and stomach problems were due to sinus drainage. Well now, 4 days later, I finished my antibiotic and don t feel sick anymore, but my right tonsil still has white spots and is swollen. There is one white spot on the left one, but the right tonsil definitely larger. I am freaking out because online it says if one tonsil is larger than the other it could be cancer, like lymphoma or something, so I m worrying myself to death. What could be the reason for this? I am 21 years old and am otherwise healthy. Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
I have gone through your query. Tonsillitis can be caused by viral or bacterial infections or both at same time. When you take antibiotics the bacterial infection may subside and viral infection can last for some more time also. Also by recurrent infections tonsil can get hypertrophied and enlarged also.Abscess also gives an enlarged tonsil. So enlargement is not always due to cancer. If still irritation is there then you can approach your Otorhinolaryngologist (ENT specialist) to rule out the condition. Take warm fluids. Taking warm chicken soup with pepper and chewable vitamin C is helpful also.
Hope this may help you.Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
