What Does White Patch Behind Uvula Indicate?

I am a 24 yr old female. I have smoked in the past but didn't start until 21 and I never smoked on a regular basis. I have experienced tonsil stones in the past. I have a swollen tonsil with a white section at the bottom as well as redish-clear spots untie back of my throat behind the uvula. I went to the doctor a week ago and he tested me for step and I didn't have that but he prescribed me antibiotics because he said I had some type of infection but it was probably viral but to take the antibiotics just in case. I have gargled with salt water, listerine and a 50/50 water and hydrogen peroxide. The tonsil swelling has gone down but the white thing is not budging. I ambeginning to get hoarse and only have a day and a half left on my antibiotics. Could this be something serious that I need to worry about?

Hi,
I understand your agony. A white patch could mean a lot.Its very commonly noticed in bacterial as well as viral infections. The fact that your tonsil swelling has responded to the antibiotics means that its most likely infectious.However, theres something called keratosis pharyngis, which is a sort off long standing infection. Never touch the cigarette again. Any white patch which is persisting for a long time, say around 3 weeks, needs professional evaluation.
