What Does Ultrasound Report As No Ascites In The Abdomen Suggest?
Hello, I recieved results of an ultrasound and wondered what the kidney issue was and if I should be concerned. Here are my results....EXAM: US ABDOMEN RUQ/LIVER/GB, 06/12/2015 11:11 AM
CLINICAL INDICATIONS: eval for HCC for 6/2015. 571.5: Cirrhosis of liver without mention of alcohol For 6/2015. Screening for HCC;
CqOMPARISON: December 15, 2014 ultrasound.
TECHNIQUE: Real-time ultrasound evaluation of the right upper quadrant was performed utilizing a curved array transducer. Duplex scan is performed. Color flow images and spectral waveforms obtained.
FINDINGS:
Pancreas: The visualized pancreas is sonographically normal in appearance.
Liver: Coarsened liver echotexture with nodularity of margins compatible with cirrhosis. No focal mass.
Doppler ultrasound demonstrates hepatopetal flow in the main portal vein. Flow velocity is 23 cm/sec which is normal.
Gall Bladder: Status post cholecystectomy. The common duct is mildly dilated measuring approximately 10 mm. This is likely secondary to cholecystectomy status.
Right Kidney: Limited evaluation of the right kidney demonstrates no hydronephrosis. There is mild pelviectasis.
Ascites: There is no ascites in the visualized abdomen.
Hello, I went through your report. First of all, there is nothing to worry.
Regarding your query on Ascites:
Ascites is collection of fluid inside the abdomen. It is abnormal. As your report is suggestive of NO ascitis, you need not to worry about this.
Regarding the problem in Kidney:
Pelviectasis means abnormal enlargement of a part of the kidney called as pelvis. As your is suggestive of mild Pelviectasis, there is nothing to worry. It happens when urine is not able pass freely from kidney to bladder. It may subside on its own. It you are having any other symptoms like back pain, pain while passing urine etc I strongly suggest you to visit a doctor.
Hello. The report mentions a cirrhotic liver. But no fluid collection in the abdomen(ascites).
There is also mild pelvicaliectasis, which is a fullness/subtle dilatation of the collecting system of the kidney. A holdup of urine in the collecting system has many causes- most commonly a distal obstruction to urinary flow, and it is also affected by patient hydration. It may even be a transient finding.
I would do a proper scan for both kidneys and the bladder/pelvic organs first, before arriving at a diagnosis. Please discuss this with your doctor first. Hope this is helpful. Take care.
