What Does Tingling Sensation On The Left Side Of The Neck Indicate?

I occasionally get a sudden electric like pain that begins at the left side of my neck and goes up my head. It usually is preceded by me turning my head to the right. It doesn t matter whether I turn fast or slow. It lasts about a minute and there are no other symptoms. It does not happen every time I turn to the right.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Sudden electric pain or other abnormal sensations are usually related to abnormal function of the nerves.

This is called central neuropathy when it involves the nerves in the brain and spinal cord and peripheral neuropathy when it involves the nerves outside of these areas.
It is likely peripheral neuropathy for you and it can be temporary or permanent and there are different possible causes.

The most common causes are--(1)low levels of vitamin b12 and folate
(2)diabetes
(3)abnormal levels of vitamin b6
(4)trauma to the nerves eg arthritis
(5)thyroid disease
(6)liver or kidney disease
(7)infection such as shingles
(8)side effect of medication
(9)neurological conditions such as MS

If the sensations continue, it would be best to be assessed by your doctor.

I hope this helps
