Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I took a urine test on 20th September and result was this:- yielded significant growth of escherichia coli after 48 hours of incubation. Pus cells-2-4 hpf Epithelia cells 2-4 hpf and doctor prescribed Ofloxacin for 10 days. On 27th October i went back for another urine test and result as follows:- yielded significant growth of escherichia coli after 48 hours of incubation. Pus cells-2-5 hpf Epithelia cells 1-3 hpf .
Please advise me on the next step to take as am confused right now. Even after the anti-biotics the urine still had growth. Thank you.
Hi, The description regarding whether you are suffering from any symptoms are missing. There are two ways I can look at your results. 1) The bacteria growth can be due to contamination. Usually the mid stream urine is collected to avoid this. I hope the laboratory personnel have instructed you the proper technique for collection. 2) If the growth is not due to contamination and you have symptoms also, I would recommend a culture and sensitivity test of your urine. After the report, you must start another course of antibiotics for which the E.coli in your urine is highly susceptible. Hope the above information helps you. Thank you ver much.
