What Does This Ultrasound Result For Breast Indicate?

hi - i had a ultrasound done on my breasts yesterday and a lesion was found and subsequent biopsy taken - I wont get the results for anothr 3-5 days and I am stressing. I am 37 and my mum has just been diagonosed with grade 2 cancer (lynphectomy successful and she is currently undergoing radiotheraphy. Can you please help me interpret the and tell me how worried I should be. report said there is a slightly irregular bordered hypoechoic lesion at left breast 3 o clock position relative to the nipple which measures about 6x7x6 mm in size. it appears to be of slighter greater height than width but demonstrates no posterior shadowing or enhancment. colour mapping of this region demonstrates no obvious intrinsic vascularity in its nature. no other abnormalities evident apart from the presence of a small cyst posterior to the left nipple meausring 4x2mm in size. no axillary lymphdenopahty is evident

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The result states that an irregular mass, which has no increased blood supply has been seen. There is no enlargement of your lymph nodes.

In most cases, cancerous lesions are associated with increased blood supply to help feed the mass so the fact that this is not present is good.

It is possible, based on the above that the mass may be non cancerous but the biopsy would give a definitive answer.

I hope this helps
