What Does This Ultrasound Report Signify?

Hi I m Caren please let me understand this ultrasound result of mine. Remarks: The Uterus is anteverted with regular contour and homogeneous myometrium. There are no myometrial masses seen. The cervix is closed and contains nabothian cyst. The endometrium is thick and hyperechoic with intact endomyometrial interface. The right ovary is lateral to the uterus while the left ovary is posterior. Both ovaries contain follicles. Medial to the right ovary is an elongated tubular cystic structure measuring 5.3 × 3.3 × 2.2 cm with incomplete septations suggestive of a dilated right fallopian tube (hydrosalpinx). There is no free fluid in the cul de sac.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Ms. Caren
Thank you for your query.

This ultrasound reports the findings of your
-uterus, endometrium (inner lining of the uterus that is shed as menstrual blood), cervix,
- ovaries,
- fallopian tubes and
- the cul-de-sac (space or pouch between the uterus and rectum inside the abdomen)

Uterus, endometrium & cervix:
-normal cervix and uterus ( a nabothian cyst is benign and may signify an infection but not necessarily-)
-myometrium is the muscular part of your uterus - normal
-endometrium - normal if you took it in the later half of your cycle (the actual thickness is not mentioned)

Ovaries:
-normal with follicles (again the time during your cycle, your age and how many follicles matter).
The position of each ovary is mentioned but is not significant

Cul de sac-normal

Fallopian tubes:
- right one is enlarged and edematous (fluid filled)
This is usually associated with infection, inflammation, pelvic inflammatory diseasedisease, adhesions due to prior abdominal /pelvic surgeries,Endometriosis

I recommend :
-An OBGYN consult
-blood tests to check for signs of infection
-an MRI of the abdomen and pelvic to accurately see the extent and type of disease.

Treatment depends on the cause. Medical management will suffice in some cases.
Surgery may be indicated If an obstruction is detected that cause uterine menstrual blood to flow backwards causing the Hydrosalpinx or adhesions or if any tumor is detected.

I urge you to consult your OBGYN asap.

Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
