Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does This Result For Fasting Glucose Reading Indicate?
Had a Fasting Glucose reading of 109...I am a 63 year old male in excellent health. 5 9 163lbs. Lots of exercise, eat very healthy, no drinking, no smoking. All other labs very good. Should I be concerned about a higher than normal glucose reading?
The fasting blood sugar level of 109mg/dl is in prediabetic range. I would recommend following the healthy lifestyle, modifying your eating habits and exercise.... As you already mentioned you are doing. For the time being you don't need to worry...but follow up blood sugar tests must be done. I would suggest you taking Oral Glucose Tolerance Test to rule out any chances of diabetes.
Please consult your local physician if you get any more abnormal blood sugar readings or experience symptoms such as increased urination or thirst, lethargy etc.
I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact HCM again if you have any concerns. Wishing you good health.
