What Does This SGOT Level In Blood Indicate?

I had a blood test last Tuesday for an upcoming physical. My AST (SGOT) reading came in at 58 compared with 43 the previous two years. The past readings did not cause any concern on my doctor's part. Is the 58 reading of concern? I read that hepatitis causes readings ten times as large.

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
SGOT level is liver function test & can be elevated in number of liver related problems. However 58 reading is not for much concern, If other liver test like blood urea, SGPT and serum bilirubin are normal.

Slight increase in SGOT level is significant also If you are alcohol consumer.
If yes, you should decrease your alcohol intake and your SGOT level will decrease in 2-3 months.

Don't worry you would be fine
Hope this information helps.
