What Does The Thyroid Ultrasound Indicate?

Got my thyroid ultrasound report. Says there are three discrete nodules demonstrated. Thyroid gland is heterogeneous. Dominant nodule is 6x 4x 4mm in right thyroid lobe which appears complex cystic with internal septations. Right thyroid lobe is 5.5 x 2.1. x 1.9cm and left thyroid lobe is 5.8 x 1.9. x 2.0 Should I be worried?

Hello,
I carefully read your concern and i am trying to give you some more information.
As you mentioned the structure of the thyroid in ultrasound is not homogenous, that means that probably an thyroiditis is present. To check the thyroid function we recommend to measure the thyroid hormones because the heterogeneous structure or the nodule may alter it.
The nodule is small for the moment and you didn't mention it's characteristics in ultrasound. If there isn't any suspicious element i would recommend to follow-up it after 6 months. If the nodule is enlarged than a FNAB might be the next step, if the dimmensions do not change, there is no need to do further examinations. Follow up is mandatory.
Hope i helped you somewhat.
Best regards,
Dr.Guni
