Hi,

If your grandson is being treated with Metformin, it means that he is diagnosed with adult diabetes but at childhood.

Weighing 230lb is one cause for being diabetic. Thus, losing weight would also improve his blood sugar balance.

Following healthy diet and lifestyle regimen will help losing weight and controlling diabetes at the same time. That's why I highly recommend to contact with a dietitian to prepare a diet menu according to his daily needs.

I am happy to know that he is active. So, physical activity won't be a problem to him. Everything depends on what he eats and how he spends that.

I am sorry to hear that the dose of metformin will increased, thus, hoping that he will lose weight too.

All the best!
