I have severe pain in my left shoulder and had an mri of my neck that revealed a central tear at the level of c3-4 along with a lateral disc hernation at the level c4-5 resulting inanterior impression on the thecal sac and mild rt neural foraminal stenosis. Also a disc buldge at the level of c5-6 with anterior imp of thecal sac AND posterior disc hernation w/ an annular tear at level of c6-7 w/anterior impression on the thecal sac. What does all this mean?

Radiologist 's  Response
Hello

According to report, you are suffering from degenerative disc disease of cervical spine.
Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis.

1.At C6-7 level, there is posterior disc herniation with an annular tear which is indenting the anterior thecal sac.

2.At C5- 6 level, there is disc bulge with indentation on anterior thecal sac.

3.At C4-5 level, there is lateral disc herniation which is indenting anterior thecal sac and mild narrowing of right neural foramen.

4.At C3-4 level, there is central tear of annulus fibrosis noted.

So,you have multilevel findings.

Majority of the cases of degenerative spine disease are benefited by physiotherapy,so physiotherapy should be tried first.
Surgery should be the last option.

Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurologist.

Get well soon.
Take Care
