What Does The Mri Report Regarding The Back Pain Indicate?

MRI findings relating to lower back pain, sciatica to left leg.

L3/4 Disc desiccation is noted as well as degenerative changes to the left facet

L4/5 disc desiccation is noted in combination with circumferential bulge and small posterior annular tear.

L5/S1 left side paracentral and foraminal posterior disc protrusion is noted, with subsequent posterior deviation of the left side descending S1 root and early comression of it. the central calan is otherwise still adequately patent.

I have been going to physio and massage theropy for the last 2 months weekly. The pain comes and goes, and is tolerable. Just wondering what now? I tried running again, but severe pain and cramping in the left calf, I don't think related to the run, so I have stopped everything, until I get this figured out.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I have studied your case.
AS you’re MRI says L 5 S 1 disc then Due to compression of this nerve root there can be tingling numbness in your leg and pain associated with it leading to walking difficulty.

Medication like methylcobalamine with neurotropic like pregabalin will reduce pain; you can take them consulting your treating doctor.

You may consult physiotherapist for further guidance. He may start TENS, or ultrasound which is helpful in your case.

I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level.
MRI shows disc compressing on nerve root then surgical decompression is permanent solution. You can send your MRI films or report. So that I can help you better.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Take care.
