Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 64 year old woman. I had stage 1B lung cancer 4 years ago. I had surgery and chemotherapy. All CT scans since have been clear. I recently had a mammogram (the first one in about 8 years) and the report shows heterogenously dense breasts and architectural distortion in one breast. I have been asked to return for further imaging. Does the fact that I had lung cancer give me a higher likelihood that this is breast cancer?
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
Well, some cancers may be related and genetic predisposition may be same for some cancers so it is possible that there is a higher risk of breast cancer in people who had lung or some other cancer. Also, this findings is unusual and may indicate some pathology. I am not saying that this is tumor but further evaluation with ultrasound or MRI scan is definitely recommended to rue out the worst. You should anyway do more frequent work ups considering your previous medical history. So, at this point there is no need to be worried , but you should do these additional tests that I have mentioned. I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
