What Does The Cholesterol And LDL Levels Indicate?

I just received my test results for Cholesterol and LDL. The test showed that my cholesterol was 217 and LDL s 157. Apparently that is high, which is confusing to me. I am a 45 year old female. I weigh 227. My husband and I biked about 12 to 15 miles 4 to 5 times per week all summer and since beginning of September I am in the gym 4 to 5 days per week doing cardio and weight lifting. I eat right (low sugar, low carb, high protein). I don t know what more I can do to lower these results. Gina

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
I have gone through your query.Cholesterol is the total cholesterol including LDL HDL VLDL and triglycerides. You have slightly elevated cholesterol and LDL.As your age is 45 it can be associated with nearing menopause. You should also rule out hypothyroidism by testing TSH blood level as dyslipidemia can occur in hypothyroidism also.If your cholesterol is elevated even after dieting and exercise you can start on with low dose statin. You can also include oily fish in your diet to lower LDL and increase HDL.Hope this may help you.
Let me know if you have any further query.
Thanks.

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
I have gone through your query.Cholesterol is total cholesterol which includes LDL,VLDL,HDL and triglycerides.Your total chlolesterol level is slightly elevated which is due to elevated LDL.As your age is 45 it can be due to body metabolic changes from nearing menopause. But that will be temporary and it will normalize in most women. You can take oily fish and include more vegetables in your diet which help in reducing LDL.Even after your life style modification if cholesterol is high then you can use low dose statins.Hope this may help you.
Let me know if you have any further query.
Thanks.
