Now wanted to know about complaints, does he has cough, sore throat, burning urination, diarrhea or any significant complaints associated with fever. He has little low WBC count and low hemoglobin. Now what are the peripheral smear findings, does it give any clue like activated lymphocytes suggesting viral infection, platelet count whether low or not. If i would be your treating clinician i would have done peripheral blood smear examination, urine routine microscopy, stool examination depending on associated complaints with fever. If you suspect salmonella infection, wanted to tel you that, tests to diagnose salmonella may be negative in first week of infection. And salmonella infection will give you step-ladder pyrexia means fever constantly rising and raised without medication. Blood culture is of utmost value in selecting particular antibiotics if you suspect bacterial infection, but it should be taken before taking any antibiotics.
