What Does The EKG With Borderline ECG Indicate?

Had an ekg last week (changing health ins providers and they requested) ekg showed borderline ecg and says abnormal changes possibly due to myocardial ischemia? my cholesterol is a little high 246 but i am not overweight (5 1) 130 fully clothed and my bp is great 102/64. I was a smoker until recently (just a few weeks) but not a heavy smoker (less than 1/2per day). I am 54. Should I be concerned? Sorry, can t afford to pay ..... thought it was free. It s the reason I am looking for different insurance....can t afford anymore :(

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

There are some pattern and rhythm changes in your EKG which puts you to an increased risk of heart disease. When we evaluate the cardiovascular profile of a patient we look at their EKG, cholesterol level and any other lifestyle factors like smoking and family history of heart disease to guide the patient towards prevention of heart disease. In your EKG there is some change and you also have high cholesterol levels apart from being a smoker till recently. All these things put you at a greater risk of having preventable heart conditions in the future. Please get a detailed assessment done by an echocardiography and other cardiac enzymes to know whether there is a concern and if you should take treatment. Please do not worry.
