What Does Soft Purple Lump Behind Ear Of A 5 Month Baby Indicate?

Hi, my five month old daughter has a soft purple lump behind her right ear . It is about the diameter of a golf ball and is slightly raised. She has had it now for about three weeks. We thought it had gone away, but just noticed it again today. Any assistance with this matter would be very much appreciated.

Hi
Welcome to the HCM

Your daughter seems to be suffering from hemangioma. Hemangiomas are a type of vascular malformation. They commonly appear during infancy. After going through a growth phase, they become static for some time. There after 50% hemangiomas disappear by 5 year of age and almost 90% improve by 9 years of age.
Although they look painful, but rarely cause discomfort.

Treatments are aimed at shrinking or removing the growth if they persist. Laser surgery can be used to remove a large hemangioma of the skin that is uncomfortable or is causing any problems. Laser treatments can also be used to reduce remaining discoloration after a hemangioma has healed.

Hopefully this will help you. I would be happy to help you out in any future health related questions.

Take care
