What Does Shrinking Of Thyroid And Parathyroids Mean?

Recently, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto s dease. It was found when going through ER for something else entirely. The physician found my calcium levels were very high and still remain high. Anyway, I had an ultra-sound yesterday and the tech said that my glands, thyroid and parathyroids, are shrinking due to the ingestion of synthroid for the past 15 years. What does that mean in layman s terms?

HI
I UNDERSTAND YOUR CONCERNS
IN HASHIMOTOS DISEASE THERE IS SLOW SELF DESTRUCTION OF THYROID LEADING TO SHRINKING OF THYROID.HENCE YOU NEED TO BE ON THYROXINE TABLET LIFELONG.
BUT HASHIMOTOS HAVE NO RELATION WITH PARATHYROID.ALSO PARATHYROID NORMALLY ARE NOT VISUALISED ON ULTRASOUND,OPINION ABOUT SHRINKING OF PARATHYROID LOOKS INCORRECT.
REGARDING HIGH CALCIUM LEVELS,IT NEEDS DETAILED EVALUATION.I WILL SUGGEST 3 TESTS:1.IONISED CALCIUM LEVELS,2.SERUM ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE 3.SERUM PARATHYROID HORMONE LEVELS.
I HOPE I HAVE ADDRESSED TO ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS.I WILL BE HAPPY TO ANSWER IF YOU HAVE FURTHER QUERRIES
WISH YOU GOOD HEALTH
