What Does 'presence Of 4-5 Pus Cells And Mucous' In Stool Test Suggest?

Hi, i have been suffering from stomach pain since the last few days now. Stool tests conducted 15 days earlier indicated occult blood present, RBC (2-4/HPF), and pus cells (6-8 HPF). A fresh test now conducted, has revealed pus cells (4-5/HPF), epithelial cells and mucous. Can you please guide me?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Since there is pain in abdomen along with stool tests showing occult blood, pus cells and RBCs, the commonest causes I can think about are:
• Intestinal infection like enterocolitis
• Possibility of colonic ulcers
• Cancer of colon

This can be diagnosed by the following way:
• Clinical evaluation by a doctor, preferably a general surgeon
CT scan of the abdomen
• Colonoscopy

Therapeutic dosages of antibiotic active against intestinal infection, metronidazole, and probiotics. All these will lead to a proper diagnosis and proper management. Till then take boiled and cooled water, fresh homemade food only. Antispasmodic as and when necessary.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant
