What Does Non Reactive VDRL And TPHA Indicate After Syphilis Treatment?
Hi doc, I had syphilis before and it's already been few months after my treatment, the results for both VDRL and TPHA are non-reactive. What concern me most is that TPHA should always be negative no? I'm not sure whether this is lab mistakes or I have strong antibody as explained by one of the hospital's staff.
Hello and welcome to HCM, The VDRL and TPHA are based on antigen-antibody reaction. Any antigen-antibody test is reported as reactive or non-reactive. Some laboratories report the test as positive or negative. Thus, non-reactive VDRL and TPHA tests suggest absence of syphilis or some infection. The infection has been treated by antibiotic.
