What Does My Pap Smear Test Result Indicate?

Hi doctor i recently did a pap smear and the resuts came back abnormal but negative for the HPV virus. I also have some fibers that is getting bigger that cause my menstruation to be a bt heavy on the 2 and 3rd day, now I am a bit nervous and a fraid this might be cervical cancer. doctor is there any other reason a pap smear can come back abnormal and cancer is not the cause? what other reasons can be a possiblity?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
An abnormal Pap test report suggests presence of atypical or malignant cells.
However, no such details are mentioned in the report that you have posted.
Cervical malignancy is usually associated with HPV infection, however, there is no evidence of HPV infection on Pap test report.
Heavy bleeding or menorrhagia can be due to cervical cancer however menorrhagia is more commonly due to hormonal imbalance.
Thus, clinical assessment is required for assessing the cause of heavy bleeding. Pap test can also be repeated and kindly, post the complete report details for better assessment next time.
