What Does My MRI Result Indicate?

My MRI results read:

Punctate areas of increased signal intensity mainly in the subcortical white matter in both parietal and, to a lesser extent, frontal regions and in the left frontal periventricular white matter, consistent with vasculitis.

Otherwise negative MRI scan of the brain with and without intravenous contrast, no evidence of an acoustic tumor. Also have a bulging disc at 4 levels on my neck, and a mild indentation upon underlying spinal cord, with moderate to severe right and mild left sided foraminal stenosis.

I did have a recent MRI on my Lumbar region due to shocking pains in my ankle. Could the Ankle shocks be from my brain? I was told the spinal cord indentation my require surgery in the future. Should MRI's be done periodically? Does vasculitis usually progress?

Hello

Increased signal intensity in subcortical white matter of brain and periventricular region may be due to ischemic changes resulting from involvement of small blood vessels(vasculitis),demyelination etc.
Ischemic changes resulting from blood vessels changes in diseases like hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia.
So,you need monitoring of conditions that leads to ischemic changes like hypertension, altered lipid profile, diabetes mellitus so that further progression of disease can be halted.
You need investigations like routine hemogram,RBS,LFT,RFT,Lipid profile, ultrasound of abdomen.
Proper treatment depend upon findings.

You also need follow up scan. Vasculitis may progress if underlying cause is not treated.

MRI finding also suggests degenerative disc disease in lumbar spine.Initially it should be manged conservatively in the form of physiotherapy, analgesics etc.
Surgery should be last option.

Take Care
