What Does Mild Renal Pelvis Dilation On Morphology Scan Mean?

Hi i recently had a 20 week morphology scan which showed my baby girl had Right mild renal pelvis dilatation. I was told i do not require any further follow up but that the baby will be scanned 7-10 days after birth. I have read that this can be an indicator of downs syndrome. No other abnormalities were found on the ultra sound. I had a nucheal scan and bloods done at 12 weeks which showed a low risk of 1 in 4500. should i be concerned?

Hi,

I have gone through your query. As per the report it seems that there is anatomical malformation in the kidney which is causing obstruction to outflow of urine. Which is turn causing back pressure to kidney resulting in renal pelvis dilatation.
After birth there will again be a scan to confirm if there is still dilatation. If it came out positive, surgery may be required.
Regarding Down's syndrome her test came out under low risk. You can consult about QUAD test with your OBS/GYN.
