What Does It Mean By An Ultrasound Showing High-lying Posterior Grade 1 Placenta?

I am 30wks 2 days pregnant now & we're scheduled to travel to Hong Kong next week for 4 days 3 nights, and although it is merely just 1 2 hour flight, i need to know if it is safe to fly. I had ultrasound when I 14 weeks pregnant I was told to have placenta previa but on my congenital scan while I was at my 25th week, it showed I now have High-lying Posterior Grade 1 placenta. May I know what it means please. thank you

Hello and welcome,
I am Dr Madhuri a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist and will be helping you with your queries.
A high lying posterior placenta menas that the placenta is well above the cervix [ the lowermost part of the uterus from where the baby has to pass while delivery]. A grade one placenta means it is still immature which is good at 25 weeks.

So this is a good report and there is no need to worry.

About the travel however we do not recommend travel beyond 28 weeks. So you need to discuss this with your doctor pertaining to your particular case as well as other history and examination findings and then decide about it.

Happy pregnancy and have a safe delivery.

Hope this satisfies your query.
