What Does Cyst On L4-l5 In MRI Report Suggest?
I have just received a very curt call from my doctor informing me that the MRI that was taken on Friday reveals: a cyst on L4-L5; bone spurs; osteoarthritis; and osteoporosis. I understand all of it...except...what does a "cyst on L4-5" mean? Is a cyst always liquid filled? What questions should I be asking the next doctor...neurologist?

1.The report suggest there is a cyst at the L4-5 - this can be a collection of the infective fluid in case of any infection.
2.Other possibilities are ganglions formation from the intervertebral joints posteriorly.
3.And spinal chord involvement - spinal / menengial involvement can not be ruled out.
4.In this case one will see if there is any symptoms / compression on the nerve or chord is seen.
5.Only if symptomatic and causing any kind of difficulty for the nerve exiting - operative procedure is treatment of choice.

Cyst on L4-5 may be a cystic schmorl's Nodes.These are protrusions of disc material into the surface of the vertebral body.In some cases,it becomes cystic in nature.
Cyst is always filled with liquid,however its consistency may vary.Consistency of cyst depend upon many things like origin,infection etc.
Rest of the report suggests degenerative disc disease of lumbar spine.
Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis.
There is also decrease mineralization in bones.
You may ask its clinical management form neurologist means whether it require surgery or not?
