What Does Chronic Hair Fall With Memory Loss Indicate?

Hi, I ve been losing small portions of hair for 5 months now. I lose almost 20+ strands of hair a day. Which, has caused me to stop brushing my hair as much. I tie my hair only once in a while, I don t shower with hot water (my grandma said it could be that) and I havnt taken any medicine lately to cause it. To top it off I ve been having difficulty remembering things such as what I did before or the day, I m only 19.years old. None of this runs in my family. Can you please help me?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I understand your concern. There is a number of reasons why hair falls out more than usual. First of all it should be noted that it is normal for people to lose up to 50 strands of hair per day. If you have noticed that your hair has been falling out more than usual, it could be down to many reasons, the most common of all being stress. Stress could also explain your memory problems. Sorting out your life, putting things into perspective and adopting a more relaxed life style would solve this problem.
If, however, you do not think your stress levels are high enough to justify this, then you should look to your diet. Is it healthy? Are you eating the right foods for you body? Usually, taking vitamin supplements, or a multivitamin will solve this kind of issue.
If you think your diet is fine, then you should see a doctor in order to get a check up and do the appropriate tests to find out the potential culprit.
I hope this helps.
Wishing you all the best.
