What Does Calcification In A Mammogram Report Suggest?

I had a breast biopsy a few days ago with the results being inconclusive as the marker showed the tissue was taken from the wrong place. the calcifications are very small and i need to see a surgeon to have the biopsy done by inserting a wire. Is the radiologist just being over cautious or is there a risk of breast cancer? Should I do this sooner rather than later? i am 45 and the calcification showed up on my first mammogram. Many thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Thank you for asking Healthcare majic.
My name is Dr Ehsan Ullah &
I have gone through your query.

first of all,
one thing you should remember that
whether the Surgeon, radiologist or Histopathologist (the doc which gives you biopsy report),
all these have main aim of your good health and Quick recovery.

and
other aspect is that your health is what matters to you the most.

you had a biopsy whose report was inconclusive.

Remember,
Most breast calcifications are not a sign of cancer.

these calcifications can be from any of the following listed causes ;

-Calcium deposits in the arteries inside your breasts
-history of breast infection
-breast lumps which are benign ( Non Cancerous) or cysts
-breast tissue injury in the past

biopsy is done for confirmation of this and to proceed accordingly.

your 2nd Question is whether to have it sooner or later, ?

it's always wise to treat any illness in time and not to wait for
complications resulting from treatment delay.

regarding your 3rd concern;
you should not make yourself worry in advance by thinking of Breast Cancer although you don't have confirmed evidence for that yet .

you should proceed with these procedures for early diagnosis and treatment as results with any diseases at early treatment are much better than delayed.

Hope this may help you. kindly write a review and Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
