What Does Blood Sugar Level Of 147 At The Age Of 18 Suggest?

Hi, I m an 18 year old girl I just pricked my finger to check my blood sugar. It was 147 and the light on the machine was flashing as a warning. I haven t been feeling good at all today and still don t. What exactly does that mean? And should I see my doctor about it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

Your blood sugar level is not alarming but mildly elevated. At the age of 18 years I do not think you should be really worried, but if you do have diabetes in your family and/or you are overweight or obese then it would be wise to visit your doctor for further management.

I wonder why you have a glucometer at home, but it could be because you either already have diabetes or have some one in the family who has it. I recommend a visit to a doctor.

Best wishes
