What Causes Hematuria In Children?

My son who is now 6 and half years, since more than two years once or twice a year he has 100 per cent blood in urine. When we give him water within an hour it will come to normal .We experienced when he has taken less water it happens. We have done all the related test and even genetic test. But all the reports are normal.Even yesterday he started having blood in urine but stopped within 1 hour by drinking water. Please advise us what may be the causes and its prevention.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In most cases this is sign of urinary infection or kidneys stones. This is mainly self limiting and doesn't require any specific treatment and you should just be patient and have fluids to promote urination. Less likely it may indicate possible bleeding in urethra, bladder or kidneys from popped vessel or some other cause. If this continues you should do urine analysis, urine culture and kidneys ultrasound to rule these main causes out. You should drink raspberry tea and plenty of water till you do tests. Also, avoid sexual intercourse and have keep good hygiene. You should reduce salt in your diet as well since this could lead to increased risk of urinary stone formation.

Hope this answers your question.
