What Does Blood In Stool Indicate When Suffering From Sarcoidosis?

My mom has sarcoidosis, and copd..she just got over pneumonia and the flu...while in the hospital they discovered occult blood in her stool....she has had colon cancer in 2007.. How likely is it that she has colon cancer which has travelled to her lungs? Her WBC count is elevated. She doesn t have a fever. And she is still coughing up green phlegm...what is going on? She is extremely weak a very short of breath.

Hi.
Thank for your query.
Noted the history about your Mother having sarcoidosis and COPD, got over Pneumonia and flu recently, discovered occult blood in stool, had colon cancer in 2007; wants to know how likely is the cancer in colon, or traveled to lungs, no fever, still coughing up green phlegm, extremely weak and short of breath.
The cause of occult blood in the stool indicate that there is a bleeding from the intestinal tract, most probably from the stomach as there is a serious disease she is coming out of.
The chances of cancer spread to the lung is always there although rare as she was operated in 2007, long ago, and can be confirmed only by contrast enhanced CT scan of the chest and abdomen.
If present, FNAC or biopsy must have to be done.
PET scan may be useful, you will have a to ask your Doctor and/or Radiologist.
