What Does A Lump On The Left Side Of The Pelvis Indicate?

I have a bulge on the left side of my pelivc near my groin. There is a knot under the bulge about the size of a golf ball. It is soft to touch but i can feel it when i lay down or have a bowel movement. What could it be and should i go to the emergency room?
