What Does A Large Lump Under The Right Armpit Indicate?
Hi there, I have a large lump under my right armpit. It is not sore at all. I went to the doctors last night and they are sending me for an ultrasound. She thinks it is a swollen vein . She feels that the lump extends with the vein. The lump is about 4cm long and approx 1.5cm wide. I have noted on the paperwork she is also questioning swollen lymph node. I am 46 female. I am on HRT tables once a day. I have had a hysterectomy so only take oestrogen. I am worried this could be a clot and they will take me off HRT and I dread all my menopausal symptoms returning. I am curious your thoughts. Could this be the case or could it be other
Hello Dear. Detailed work up is required what could be the possible cause of lump near your armpit? Is it lymph node or swollen vein or any other tumor like lipoma, subaceous cyst or dermoid cyst etc. Your doctor is on the right way to find the possible cause by ordering for an ultrasound. She may also ask for Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and biopsy of the tumor if required. So by all these tests they may come to a conclusion regarding the cause of the lump.
Since you are on HRT for menopausal symptoms, there can be a possibility that the estrogen hormone used in HRT can cause lumps. In that case the doctor will decide whether to stop HRT or not. In case they are planning to stop they may start you on some other alternate medications to combat your menopausal symptoms. Do not worry. Just follow your doctors instructions.
Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you. All the best With warm regards Dr Sanjay Kini
