What Does A Hanging Tonsil Mean?

I m a 21 year old generally healthy female. I ve had a minor sore throat that began yesterday and was accompanied by a general sick feeling. I woke up this morning feeling a bit worse but felt much better after taking ibuprofen, eating, having hot drinks, and showering. However, around lunch time I noticed that I felt like I had something in my throat like a piece of food and when I looked in the mirror it looked like a piece of my tonsil was coming off. I touched it with a q-tip and while there s no pain there s a piece of the tonsil that is only attached on one side and just kind of hanging there. What could this be? I had tonsil stones about a month ago that I removed with a q-tip and am wondering if I did something to them.

Hi, Welcome to Health care magic forum.
As you describe, it appears to be the follicular tonsillitis, followed by a recurrent tonsillitis, with a hanging tonsil.
I advise you to consult an E.N.T. surgeon for diagnosis and treatment.
I usually prescribe to my patient with such symptoms erythromycin, phenylephrine, citrizine.
Avoid taking fruits, juices, and cool things.
wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.
