What Does A Bump On The Soft Palate Indicate?

I am a 37 year old female. I have a slight bump on the roof of my mouth ( smaller than a tooth) also have a red patch that is behind bump. This patch fades, gets smaller, larger, darker, and fades again... Lately the red patch hasn t gotten any bigger or darker, and with the lump on my hard palate, I don t know if it has grown, as I just noticed it.... What could it be?? What should I do??

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

A lump on the palate can be due to causes like a Mucous cyst or Mucocele..
If it is bony hard then it can be due to overgrowth of bone leading to bony torus..
Red patch can be due to inflammation or there is a possibility that red patch and lump can be due to Hematoma formation..
So my suggestion is to first of all get it clinically examined by an Oral Physician..
After a proper examination only the exact cause can be pin pointed and treated accordingly..
If it is a mucocele or a Hematoma then it generally resolve gradually on its own..
Doing salt water rinses can help in faster regression..
If it is bony torus then surgical trimming has to be done..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
