What Does A Big Bump On The Left Inside Of An Ankle After A Hit Indicate?
I was hit in the left inside of my ankle on the bone by Softball and it has a big bump and it feels really hard like there's liquid in there. is it a blood clot? It really hurts. I went to an urgent care where they took X-rays. No broken bones. Nurse practitioner said think if it as a blood blister it's not a clot. I beg to differ. It's pretty scary!

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query.
The large bump is likely to be due to a hematoma formation in the area. Since the bony injuries have been ruled out, a soft tissue injury is likely. You need to avoid massaging the area and take a mild pain killer for relief. Avoid putting weight. Do a cold compress on the area of injury. The pain and swelling might take over a week to subside. In case there is an acute pain and a sudden increase in swelling then consult your physician for a direct examination to rule out any infection in the area.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
