What Does ST Mean And Is A Negative Value A Good Sign?
Hi there, I have a question about my grandpa who just had a stroke. Right now he is in a coma. He is fixed to the heart monitor..my question is regarding the rates on the monitor..I understand that HR is heart rate and right now it s 111/min, his Resp is 33/min and ST is -4.5 (negative 4.5) What does this ST mean and is it a good sign when it is negative. I hope you can clarify this

When we see ecg graph there is a pqrs reading will be available with chart. This reading shows the cardiac activity and health. Here there is a ST ready also can be taken. And as per the reading it shows following things Flat, downsloping, or depressed ST segments may indicate coronary ischemia. ST elevation may indicate myocardial infarction. An elevation of >1mm and longer than 80 milliseconds following the J-point. J point is Junction between the per and St line. This measure has a false positive rate of 15-20% (which is slightly higher in women than men) and a false negative rate of 20-30%. ST depression may be associated with hypokalemia or digitalis toxicity. This all is very complicated to understand in writing I suggest you can also ask there near buy duty doctor for detail understanding. As per the reading what you have seen is St depression. Which means hypokalemia means low potassium level. Hope you got it. The care.
