What Does CT Scan Report Shallow Disc Protrusion At C5-C6 In The Mid Line Indicate?

I received my CT report back after have a cervical fusion from C6-T2 and it says that I have shallow disc protrusion at C5-C6 in the midline. Does that mean that I will not be able to return to normal activities and will this become painful in the future as it is not bothering me now?

Geriatrics Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. It means, some amount of disc material is coming out between c5 and c6 vertebrae.
2. The intervertebral space is getting reduced and support would be necessary to reduce any further reduction, which could press upon the nerves exiting the intervertebral space resulting in cervical spondylosis.
3. Yes, it will be become painful in future unless, you use cervical support and also strengthen neck muscles through neck exercises.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
