What Does Beta Blockers Do?

what exactly does Beta Blockers do? I take atenolol and it is considered a Beta Blocker which can cause impotence, right? Is valsartan also a Beta Blocker and if is not, would it be better for me than atenolol? I am a type-2 diabetic and i suffer from erectile dysfunction. I use a vacuum pump device which really gets me very erect.

Diabetologist 's  Response
Dear sir i can understand your concern.
what ever you had said is true.
valsartan is a angiotensin receptor blocker group.
And most of beta blockers are associated with erectile dysfunction and besides that taking valsartan will also protect your kidney from diabetic nephropathy.
kindly take suggestion from your treating doctor regarding the dose of valsartan to be used.
For better outcome in erectile dysfunction good diabetes control and exercise is also very important
Hope I was able to help you.
If you have any further question feel free to write me back. I will be happy to help.
Take care.
Best Regards.
